The data comes from the job site Indeed, which has annualised all hourly wages to calculate an average annual salary for a full-time position. Jobs on the listhave differed from last year,when a school teacher took the top spot as the most in-demand.
In 2025, job advertisements for school teachers saw a 245% increase in share of jobs posted due to teacher shortages in England in most secondary subjects.

PropertySolicitors were second on the list with an 111% increase, followed by commercial director roles, which had increased 108% in demand.
The job with the highest average salary on last year’s list was a paediatrician, with vacancies increasing by 91% and an average salary of £106,048 per year. The average salary for the roles featured on the list is above £37,430.

However, in 2026 things are looking very different. Leading the list is a Pilates instructor, which comes with the huge rise in popularity of the exercise.
Pilates studios have appeared across the UK in recent years, with the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner,Bella Hadid, Kate Hudson, andDavid Beckhamall loving it.
Plus, you can earn good money as the average wage for a Pilates instructor is £54,644 according to Indeed.
A principal software engineer is the second most in-demand for this year, and is the highest paying position on the list. The wages come in at an average of £68,461.
It is followed by the roles of traffic manager and school principal.
